DMCC and JLT: Setting Up in the JLT Free Zone
JLT (Jumeirah Lakes Towers) is the Dubai district run by DMCC. When people talk about the “JLT Free Zone”, they mean DMCC: a company registered in JLT is a DMCC company, with a DMCC licence and an address in one of the JLT towers, next to Dubai Marina.
Your office choice sets your visa quota and your budget:
- Flexi Desk — a shared desk in a DMCC business centre in JLT, from 5,000 AED per year, with up to 3 visas.
- Serviced or dedicated office — a private office in a JLT tower for larger teams; the visa quota grows with the office size.
- Registered address — always in JLT, one of Dubai’s best-known business districts, which helps with banks and clients.
How to Set Up a DMCC Company: Step by Step
- Free consultation — we map your activity to the right DMCC licence and office option.
- Name and activity approval — DMCC reserves your company name and approves the activities.
- Documents and KYC — passport copies, photo, proof of address and a short business plan; DMCC runs its compliance checks.
- Licence issued — typically 5–10 working days from document submission for standard activities.
- Establishment card and visas — immigration file, then investor and employee visas.
- Corporate bank account — we prepare the file and support you through bank onboarding.
For a corporate shareholder, add the parent company’s certificate of incorporation, articles and board resolution, legalised for use in the UAE.
DMCC Cost Overview & Visa Quotas
DMCC is a premium-tier zone. Below are realistic 2026 ranges including license, registration and 1 visa for a standard setup.
- License (no visa) — Starting from 31,000 AED for trading/services license.
- License + 1 visa package — Starting from 48,000 AED all-in.
- License + 2 visas package — Starting from 55,000 AED.
- Visa quotas — 6 visa packages (Smart Flexi Desk to executive office tier).
- Office requirement — yes, but Flexi Desk packages available from AED 5,000/year.
- Annual renewal — license renews each year; budget similar to first-year cost.
DMCC vs Meydan vs IFZA vs JAFZA
DMCC costs more than Meydan or IFZA, but brings the strongest banking access and a JLT address. For warehousing and port logistics, JAFZA is the better fit.
| DMCC (JLT) | Meydan | IFZA | JAFZA | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starting price | 31,000 AED | 12,500 AED | 14,900 AED | 25,000 AED (office) |
| Address | JLT, near Dubai Marina | Nad Al Sheba (premium) | Dubai Silicon Oasis | Jebel Ali, port-side |
| Tier-1 banking | Easiest | Excellent | Good | Excellent |
| Best for | Trading, commodities, crypto, established SMEs | Premium address on a budget | Consultants, services, e-commerce | Logistics, warehousing, manufacturing |
Banking Access & Best Fit
Why DMCC is the gold standard — and where it might not fit.
- Banking access — the easiest Free Zone for tier-1 UAE banks (Emirates NBD, ADCB, FAB) thanks to DMCC’s reputation.
- Best for — trading companies, commodities, crypto, fintech, tech SMEs with AED 500K+ expected turnover.
- Not ideal for — pre-revenue solo consultants on a tight budget (IFZA or Meydan are cheaper).
- Compliance — DMCC requires audited financial statements yearly. Our accounting team handles this.
DMCC FAQ
How long does DMCC company formation take?
5-10 working days from document submission to license issuance for standard activities. Crypto and regulated activities can take 4-8 weeks due to KYC.
Can I trade crypto on a DMCC license?
Yes — DMCC Crypto Centre supports Proprietary Trading, VASP (Virtual Asset Service Provider) and blockchain technology consultancy. VASP requires VARA approval and additional capital.
Do I need a physical DMCC office?
You need either a Flexi Desk (shared) or a dedicated office. Flexi Desk packages start at AED 5,000/year and qualify for up to 3 visas.
What about Corporate Tax at DMCC?
DMCC is a Designated Free Zone for QFZP purposes. Meet the qualifying activity + substance + audit requirements and qualifying income stays at 0% Corporate Tax. Non-qualifying income is taxed at 9%.
Is the JLT Free Zone the same as DMCC?
